Cabaret Lyrics – Mali
When I was in school and I’d just undergone some kind of emotional meltdown with the board exams around the corner, my dad sat me down and told me the most important words I still live by today: Life is a marathon, not a 100 meter sprint. Don’t burn out too quickly.
Cut to many years later, after I’d quit my job to do music, I found myself pouring coffees, sending emails and making excel sheets for my indie work, in some ways similar to the ‘desk job’ I had given up. Something I never expected. People will often assume that being an indie musician is chill and that it’s all about making music, touring and doing fun stuff on Instagram, but have no idea the work and hustle that really goes into making any of that happen. Cabaret is about that hustle. That marathon we’re all running right now.

Cabaret Lyrics
Never thought of yourself as a coffee drinker
Deep thinker now you’re all invested
Hook, line and sinker, blinkers on
It’s a marathon
Look back and see how far you’ve run
And how far you’ll go
It’s not your first rodeo
Emotional cabaret
I threw caution to the wind and now
What am I supposed to say or do?
Well, I’ve learned a thing or two
Ever thought of yourself as a broken mirror?
Just pieces of a puzzle fixed together
See it clearer? Blinkers on
It’s a marathon
Look back and see how far you’ve come
And how far you’ll go
It’s not your first rodeo
So I tried to set myself apart
Tried not to take too much to heart
Tried to get off to a good head start
Oh woah
And when the going got tough you came out tops
And if it wasn’t enough you’d climb into your box
Enough if enough its getting way too toxic
Emotional cabaret
I threw caution to the wind and now
What am I supposed to say or do?
Well, I’ve learned a thing or two
And I’m done serenading
These masquerading fools
Celebrating their hold over you
Deep thinker now you’re all invested
Hook, line and sinker, blinkers on
It’s a marathon
Look back and see how far you’ve run
And how far you’ll go
It’s not your first rodeo
Emotional cabaret
I threw caution to the wind and now
What am I supposed to say or do?
